World Showdown ChampionShip has began
Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to welcome you to Kamnik, at the Cirius, specialised Centre for Education and Rehabilitation of Physically Impaired Children and Adolescents, at the official opening of the 2013 World Showdown Championship.
First of all, I would like to invite you to listen to the national anthem of the Republic of Slovenia.
On this occasion, I would like to call on stage the Tournament Director Gregor Habjan to extend a warm welcome to all the competitors, participants and visitors to the World Showdown Championship.
Tournament director Gregor Habjan is happy to welcome such a large number of competitors from all over the world at this important competition. He wishes everyone a nice time during the World Championship, good results, and many positive impressions upon leaving Slovenia.
The competition is organised by the Paralympic Committee of Slovenia, on behalf of which its President Damijan Lazar would like to greet you all.
Emil Muri, the representative of the Slovenian Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, would also like to say a word of welcome.
Emil Muri is glad that Slovenia is hosting such an eminent competition and hopes that all the participants feel great. At the same time, this is an important event for all of the blind and visually impaired in Slovenia.
It is also a great pleasure and honour to have here Mr Krister Olenmo, the Chairman of the Showdown Committee of the International Blind Sports Federation.
In the name of the host city of Kamnik the Mayor Marjan Šarec will speak.
With regard to the showdown world championship for the blind and visually impaired, Mayor Marjan Šarec expressed his respect for everyone, whose actions help improve the quality of life of people with limited mobility. “Exercise definitely helps improve the self-image of the blind and visually impaired, which is why we preserve the vision of a good society, encourage the improvement of the quality of life of people with limited mobility, and continue to overcome the stereotypes connected with them. Here, we naturally can’t overlook the important role that the organizations supporting the disabled play in the lives of the blind and visually impaired. The Sports Federation of the Slovenian Disabled (the Paralympic Committee) uses today’s event to bring attention to the fact that in sport everyone is equal. There may be minor limitations, but they can be overcome with strong will and perseverance. You, my dear competitors, are a true proof of this. I wish you a good stroke, and as many goals as possible. Have a nice time and use this opportunity to make new friends.
In the end, I would like to thank Sandi Novak for his organisational efforts, and wish you, dear competitors, best of luck. Let the Championship begin!
